Neighbor

Not on my agenda,

no hint, truly surprised.

Me, hauling firewood with a wheel barrow.

It was my neighbor’s agenda.

Five trips, five loads, five chances to think.

Considering what being a neighbor is.

My neighbor’s gift-firewood.

“Bring me a fish sometime,” was all he asked.

It was not for money.

A neighbor is unselfish.

Being a neighbor puts me second.

The wood already stacked in his garage.

A neighbor thinks ahead, plans for kindness.

The Creator said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart,

And love your neighbor as yourself.”

My neighbor did that for me today.
